Fair prices and better living conditions for the farmers and workers of our raw materials.
The „Fairtrade-Idea“ is nothing new to us. Eversince, we try to do our best to maintain fair and responsible business relationships with our retailers, suppliers and consumers.
The majority of raw materials we use for the production of our liqueurs are fairly traded. This makes the farmers and workers at the beginning of the production chain benefit. It assures them to receive minimum prices that cover the costs of sustainable production and it avoids the injustices of conventional trade.
What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers a better deal and improved terms of trade. This allows them the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future.
The minimum price paid to Fairtrade producers is determined by the Fairtrade standards. It applies to most Fairtrade certified products. This price ensures that producers can cover their average costs of sustainable production. In addition to the Fairtrade price, there is an additional sum of money, called the Fairtrade Premium. This money goes into a communal fund for workers and farmers to use to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions. The premium is invested for example in education and healthcare, farm improvements to increase yield and quality, or processing facilities to increase income.
Key elements of the Fairtrade systems are the direct trade with producers which benefit from the minimum prices they receive for their products, anticipated financing arrangements for the next harvest and long lasting purchasing contracts. Furthermore Fairtrade promotes organic farming methods. It fosters ecological minimum standards like the preservation of clean water and forest, agricultural biodiversity and erosion protection, limited usage of pesticides and the prohibition of genetic engineering. The implementation of these criteria is often made possible by receiving the Fairtrade Premium. Moreover, after conversion to organic farming methods these products are additionaly funded with an Organic Premium.
